The staysail schooner Westward was designed by Eldredge-McInnis along the lines of a North Sea pilot schooner, for service as an ocean-going yacht, and was built by Abeking and Rasmussen in 1961. A successful circumnavigator, she was converted into an offshore research and sea education vessel in the early 1970's. We purchased Westward in 2003, and refit her to extensively for service the Ocean Classroom fleet.
Throughout her career, Westward has sailed the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea and the world, carrying her valuable cargo of young people on voyages of personal growth and discovery. With Ocean Classroom, Westward continues this tradition, while expanding her itineraries and programs of maritime studies.
